Plant-Based Avocado Ranch Burgers on a bun

It’s the start of a new year which can only mean one thing: resolutions. One of the most common resolutions relates to health and wellness which brings me to a conversation on plant-based diets. This term has been going around quite a bit lately and outside of many fast food chains now carrying plant-based burgers, I didn’t know much more about it, so I decided to do some investigation and give it a try! I picked up a package of plant-based burgers and prepared them three different ways.

In my opinion there is no better way to prepare a burger than on the grill and so that’s where I started. But before I get to that I wanted to explain exactly what a plant-based diet actually means. I was thinking it was just a new term for ‘vegan’, but this diet/lifestyle can actually include some animal-based products. Mainly the plant-based diet consists of vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, legumes and fruits.

While I don’t personally follow a strict plant-based diet, I don’t mind replacing meat in my diet here and there. I grilled the patties with a simple sprinkle of salt and pepper and then transformed the patties into 3 delicious meals, two of which are perfect for meal-prep! Of course, I had to try the patty as a traditional cheeseburger, topped with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado and Togarashi. Togarashi is a Japanese spice blend that adds the perfect touch of flavor to these burgers and a little bit of heat!

If you’re looking to cut out the calories from a bun or cutting carbs, try the same combination wrapped up in a tortilla. It’s handheld and you can wrap it up before you head out to work for the day. Keep the burger patty separate, warm it up and then add it to the tortilla wrap for a delicious meal. If you’re really looking to cut calories pile everything on top of a bowl of spring mix and the most important component of all three of these burgers is a drizzle of Homestyle Ranch dressing. It adds the perfect combination of creamy and cool flavor in every bite.

Whether you’re looking to clean up your diet but cutting out meat here and there or if you’re going full-on plant-based diet, these three burger variations offer a delicious and nutritious alternative to meat. And they don’t skimp on taste!
