Festive Homemade Scent Diffuser

It’s official. We are now in the holiday season. Things are going to start getting crazy busy, we will all be running around in the hustle and bustle of shopping malls and at times we may forget about the real meaning of this season. When I think about the holiday season I think about gatherings of friends and family, just getting together and enjoying good conversation. One of my favorite things to do around this time of year is invite people into my home but often find myself with invitations to other homes and never like to show up empty handed!

One of the most thoughtful gifts that I think you can give someone is something homemade. I’m a food blogger which often that means a delicious treat or meal made fresh in my kitchen. Or a good bottle of wine. But I’ve also been known to get crafty from time to time and found that the Litehouse® Freeze Dried herb jars make the perfect vessel for a homemade scent diffuser.

I love scent diffusers because they can fill a room with a subtle aroma that can create an inviting environment. But they can be expensive! You can make a large batch of these as gifts this holiday season by picking up a few basic items at your local craft store. All you need is a neutral oil such as grapeseed or safflower, a little bit of alcohol such as vodka to help the oil travel through the reeds and a few drops of essential oils. If this is for your own home, you can easily remove the blue lid from the herb jar. If you’re giving this as a gift, you’ll want to leave the lid on the container and you can use acrylic paint in festive colors on the plastic. As for the scents, here are some of my favorite fall/winter scent combinations:

Gingersnap Cookie – 3 drops ginger, 3 drops cassia, 2 drops clove

Happy Harvest – 5 drops tangerine, 3 drops cinnamon, 1 drop clove

Apple Pie – 3 drops douglas fir, 2 drops cinnamon, 3 drops citrus

Sweater Weather – 5 drops orange, 4 drops thieves, 1 drop ginger

Happy gifting!
