We finally broke out the barbeque this week after what felt like the longest winter of my entire life. I dusted it off, cleaned the grates and now we’re ready for a summer full of grilling! Cooking outdoors and enjoying a leisurely dinner on the patio is one of my favorite parts of the season. We try to keep things simple so we can quickly clean up and enjoy the rest of the evening. There’s no time for fussing about when there’s dogs to walk and bikes to ride!
To jazz up our dinner I combined quite a few Freeze Dried Herbs to spread on top of our steaks. This gives it a nice finishing touch and adds such great flavor! I find the added pop of green brings a bright freshness to any dish. Having the herbs conveniently ready makes it easy to experiment and enhance our meals.
Now, I have watched enough cooking shows to know I better bring the steaks to room temperature before they hit the grill! This allows the meat to cook more evenly. I used to salt and pepper right away but have also found it’s better to wait until just before they hit the heat as salt will tend to dry out the meat. Another tip I’ve learned is to just leave it alone. Let the steak develop a nice sear before trying to move or flip it. If you try too early, you risk the steak sticking to the grill. Even though my family doesn’t seem to notice my sweet criss-cross grill marks, I still like to give it my best!
