Warm Collard & Jalapeno Ranch Dip

Friends and family visiting our home know us well enough to expect healthy noshing when they show up. They also know that I’ll try my best to make whatever they eat delicious. Super Bowl Sunday snacking will be no exception: whole-wheat chips and vegetables for dipping paired with Warm Collard & Jalapeno Ranch Dip. An exciting football game and the spiciness of jalapeno are well-suited to the adrenalin that will have football fans leaping out of their seats. Meanwhile, it does my heart good to see friends and family getting several servings of vegetables during near-compulsive game-day snacking.

Dips are easy to make and are a familiar favorite for many. Greens, such as collards, turnips, and kale, work well as dip ingredients. Combined with Litehouse Jalapeno Ranch Dip (or any of the Ranch dips from Litehouse). Besides, spinach dip is already a madly popular dip, and my guests just dig in without thinking. Then, the double take and inevitable question: “Are there collard greens in this dip?”

Make this dip easy to prepare with chopped, frozen greens of your choice, and season the greens with Litehouse Instantly Fresh Red Onion and Litehouse Instantly Fresh Garlic. These freeze-dried aromatics will rehydrate quickly (I add the seasonings to the greens and vegetable broth before cooking). When serving guests, I am generally conservative about adding jalapenos and other spicy seasonings, preferring to allow guests to add more heat if they want it.

Warm Collard & Jalapeno Ranch Dip

Serves 4-6 | Finish in 30 minutes

Transform cut, frozen collards into a warm, delicious, and healthy dip made fabulous with Litehouse Jalapeno Dip, Litehouse Instantly Fresh seasonings, and Litehouse Artisan Blue Cheese. Make a healthy platter for snacking by adding multi-grain chips and finger-sized vegetables.


2 cups vegetable broth,
1 Tbsp. Litehouse Instantly Fresh Red Onion,
1 tsp. Litehouse Instantly Fresh Garlic,
1 10-ounce package chopped collards,
½ cup Litehouse Jalapeno Ranch Dip,
1-2 teaspoons Litehouse Instantly Fresh Jalapenos,
Litehouse Artisan Blue Cheese Center Cut or Litehouse Blue Cheese Crumbles,
4 tsp. breadcrumbs or panko crumbs,


1. Pour vegetable broth into saucepan. Add Litehouse Instantly Fresh Red Onion and Litehouse Instantly Fresh Garlic to broth and allow to rehydrate for 1 minute before adding collards. Cook collards, according to package directions, until done.

2. Drain collards in a colander then transfer greens to a clean, non-textured dishtowel. Roll greens in towel to reduce moisture (which would make the dip too wet).

3. Pre-heat oven to broil. Transfer greens to large glass bowl. Add Litehouse Jalapeno Ranch Dip and Litehouse Instantly Fresh Jalapenos. Stir to mix ingredients.

4. Transfer prepared ingredients to an oven-safe serving bowl or to oven-safe individual serving dishes. Slice Litehouse Artisan Blue Cheese Center Cut in half. Crumble cheese and sprinkle, along with breadcrumbs, on top of the uncooked dip. Put dip under broiler for 1-2 minutes or until the breadcrumbs are toasted and the cheese is melted. Serve with chips and a variety of finger-sized vegetables such as mini carrots and celery sticks.
