Summer and hotdogs seem to go hand in hand, literally! I don’t think I’ve ever attended a baseball game, hosted a backyard barbeque or pulled up a chair around the campfire without taking a bite out of a hotdog at some point. I’m not the only person with a fondness for franks – between Memorial Day and Labor Day, approximately 7 billion hot dogs are gobbled up across America! So, it makes perfect sense that about halfway through the summer, there is an official holiday honoring this humble but hello-oh-so-good food. Hurray, today is National Hotdog Day! Even though I appreciate a simple hotdog, I quickly become bored with mustard, ketchup and other traditional condiments. While some dogs are smothered in melted cheese or doused with chili, those indulgent toppings can be a real diet buster – even when paired with the lower-fat alternative franks I prefer. But, when Litehouse Foods recently rolled out their new line of Greek yogurt-based dips called Opadipity, my creative instincts took over to come up with some exciting and healthier hotdog toppings.
Opadipity and Chips Opadipity and Chips
Greek God Hotdog – The stuff of legends, this frank features roasted grape tomatoes, sliced Kalamata olives, chickpeas, pepperoncini, and Cucumber Dill Opadipity Greek Yogurt Dip. – a light and lively dip that tastes just like the creamy tzatziki sauce so popular in the region. Garlic Green Machine Hotdog– Wilted spinach and shredded broccoli stalks pack in vitamins while roasted garlic cloves and julienned red peppers add a powerful punch of yum. Spinach Parmesan Opadipity Greek Yogurt Dip, Litehouse Food’s healthy take on a classic party dish, pulls all the flavors together deliciously. Cha-Cha Chipotle Hotdog – Summer veggies, including thinly sliced zucchini, fresh corn kernels, chopped red onion, and jalapeno slices, give this frank a south-of-the-border spin. And, you bet your buns, the Chipotle Ranch Opadipity Greek Yogurt Dip kicks up the flavor even more!
