Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger Recipe

The summer temperatures are heating up and the only thing on my mind is grilling burgers and sipping on an ice-cold brew. Every summer I look forward to trying new burger combinations! This burger combines salty and sweet flavors for a mouthwatering taste in every bite.

If you’re a blue cheese fan and you’ve never tried it on a freshly grilled burger than you’re missing out. Litehouse Simply Artisan Blue Cheese Crumbles offer a nutty and sharp flavor with a creamy finish and it melts perfectly on grilled burgers. To create an even creamier texture, I topped the burger first with freshly made aioli. Making a homemade aioli is super simple and all you need to do is combine egg yolks in a food processor along with olive oil, garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Presto, homemade aioli! It’s even great as a side with sweet potato fries!

Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger with Fries

Breaking down the layers of this burger you’ll find different flavors that complement each other. The salty bacon and blue cheese work together with the fig jam for a sweet finish. The aioli offers a creaminess to the cheese and the arugula offers a peppery aftertaste. If you’re every playing around with flavor combinations for burgers, look for flavors that work hand in hand to create a partnership. Salty, peppery, sweet, creamy and crunchy are some of my favorites to look for when I’m piling things high on my burgers.

Celebrate the summer with this delicious Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger and don’t forget to pair it with an ice-cold beer on a hot day. If you’re new to blue cheese, give this burger a try and never look back!

  • 1 small garlic clove, finely grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Directions

  1. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal parts and flatten into patties the size of your buns. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  2. Prepare the aioli by combining the ingredients in a food processor and blending until whipped and smooth. Refrigerate until ready to use and can be stored in the refrigerator tightly sealed for up to 2 weeks.
  3. Prepare charcoal or gas grill for to medium-high heat. Add hamburger patties over direct heat and grill covered for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium. Adjust time based on how you prefer the doneness of the burgers.  Remove from grill and rest 3 – 4 minutes before serving.
  4. While the burgers are resting, toast the buns on the grill. Top each bun base with a burger patty. Spread aioli onto the burgers and divide blue cheese evenly between burgers. Top cheese with 2 slices of bacon per burger and arugula. Spread fig jam onto the tops of the buns and cover burgers before serving.
