I serve a salad with dinner almost every night of the week. My family knows this is something to expect at every meal. I’ve tried to get creative, so that my children will eat them. My daughter loves salad, and most nights will eat only salad. My son on the other hand will only eat the cucumbers at best. However, once I started making this B.L.T.A. (bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado) Salad with Ranch Dressing he has started eating everything (minus tomatoes but that’s a different subject). I call that a big win. Plus, this salad is crisp and delicious! Some days I’ll even make this for lunch. It has the perfect mix of flavors and it’s full of veggies which I love most about a good salad.
I love B.L.T.’s so I knew it was only natural to make it in the salad form. My family loves Litehouse® Homestyle Ranch Dressing & Dip. We eat it on just about everything. To keep this salad on the lighter side I added in Italian Herb Harvest Snaps Salad Toppers. I love that they are naturally gluten free, dye free (which I try to keep out of my kids' diets), they are baked, and have no preservatives. The new Salad Toppers are the perfect complement to any salad. To keep this salad kid-friendly I used the Italian Herb, but the Chipotle are awesome for a spicy twist!
Here are a few ways I like to make salads kid-friendly. Think about what vegetables your kids love? Write them down then make sure you put 1-2 of those ingredients in every salad. We have a “no thank you bite” policy in my house. This means you have to take one bite to try it. If you don’t like it you simply say “no thank you” and you no longer need to try any more. Every dinner I make sure I put 1-2 of the items that they like from the salad on their plate as well as the rest of the salad ingredients. That way, it gets them trying new stuff without forcing it. This method has worked really well for our house, and I hope it helps your home too.
If you are looking for a family friendly salad recipe I hope you’ll give my B.L.T.A. Salad with Homestyle Ranch Dressing recipe a try. Don’t forget to add on the Italian Herb Salad Toppers, either!
