3 Ingredient Butterscotch Caramel Pecan Candy Recipe and Tips on Hosting a Cookie Swap

The other day I heard someone mention they were starting to make Christmas cookies and it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet! Cookie baking and candy making is a yearly tradition for many people and it can start early. They just can’t wait to turn on that Christmas music and bake in the kitchen. Often times they bake just so they can gift the sweets to other people. That’s what I have to do or I will eat the whole batch!


Last year was the first year that I went to a cookie exchange party. If you are one of those people who just can’t wait to make those Christmas sweets, then hosting a cookie swap party is for you!

How To Host A Christmas Cookie and Candy Swap Party

1. Invite a group of friends. I recommend using evite or sending an invitation through Facebook to make things easy and stress-free. If you enjoy paper invitations, feel free to send those! Send your invitations a few weeks in advance because the holiday season gets busy for most people!

2. Request each friend make and bring 2 dozen cookies. They should bring one dozen for all the guests to snack on at the party and one dozen to swap and take home. (This number depends on how many guests you are having. Two dozen is ideal for 6-8 guests).

3. Have supplies ready. You will need menu cards to set by each plate of cookies displaying what kind of cookie they are and who made them. Have recipe cards ready for guests to write down and share recipes. Also provide pretty packages to send your guests home with their swapped cookies.

4. Keep the party simple. All you need to provide are the cookie exchange supplies and wine, coffee, or tea!

3 Ingredient Butterscotch Caramel Pecan Candy Recipe and Tips on Hosting a Cookie Swap Recipe

Serves 24 Cookies


  • 1 16 oz. container of Litehouse Butterscotch Caramel Dip
  • 2 cups pecans
  • 2 cups chocolate chips


1. Preheat the oven to 375 and bake the pecans until toasted, about 5-7 minutes.
2. Place 5 pecans in a “turtle” shape: 4 legs and a head.
3. Melt the caramel in the microwave for about 20 seconds to make it easier to work with.
4. Drop about 1/2 Tablespoon of caramel in the center of the pecans.
5. Place the caramel and pecans in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
6. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for 20 seconds at a time, stirring each time until melted.
7. Drop 1 Tablespoon of melted chocolate over the caramel.
8. Store in the refrigerator.
